For the last several weeks, Isabelle and I have been
studying eschatology with The End: A Bible Prophecy Study for Teens by Cheri Fields. This study walks you through the Old Testament prophecies before it
goes through the book of Revelation. If you have ever studied the book of
Daniel, then you have read about the empire statue. I liked how Cheri shares
each symbol with each empire animal. Gold represents the Babylonian empire with
a winged lion. Silver represents the Medo-Persian empire with a bear. Bronze
represents the Grecian empire with a leopard. Iron represents the Roman empire
with a “terrible” animal that doesn’t compare to a real-world animal. Studying
the vision of Daniel, prepares you for your study of Revelation where the
Ancient of Days is taking over and handling the eternal kingdom to the Son of
Man. Through this study, you will see what happens to the world empires after
God takes control. You will also study some woes with the key verses that
explain why God sends this kind of destruction on the earth.
As you read through this study, it’s as if Cheri is speaking
directly to you. She really has a way of speaking to teens, getting to their
level, to keep their interest. For example, “Whichever way this works out,
these dudes collect an army of 200 million to help them.” (The End, 76). This
book simply shares what she taught her own teens: how to take the Bible for
what it is without filtering anything out because of what people have taught
us. It is a living book. Parents will only know their student’s comprehension
of the book through discussion.
Cheri even causes you to think through the timeline of End
Time events as you study. For example, war is a big part of death; but she
notes that it is important to think through what does all these people in:
sword, famine, plague, and wild animals. Each verse for study that is mentioned
is in bold letters and noted with capitalization if it is a KEY to
understanding the timeline of End Time events. Cheri pinpoints the pivot point
in history when common events are suddenly extraordinary events so that
everyone knows it’s God who is doing them – a great earthquake, the sun is
darkened, the moon turns deep red, the stars fall, heaven is rolled up like a
scroll, and all mountains are moved.
Studying the future excites our imaginations. Many people
seek out ways to find out what is going to happen, and we even have movies
about the world being destroyed. Any worldview system wide enough to shape a
whole life has to answer the ultimate questions of both our beginnings and the
end of history. God knows this and gives us solid answers to both, preparing us
for the distant future.
