Benefits of Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is generally reserved for high school juniors and seniors who are in strong academic standing and demonstrate an aptitude for college level academics. Dual enrollment gives high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit. In addition, when taken in a regionally accredited college, these courses can be transferred to other colleges and universities.

In the past, dual enrollment usually meant physically attending a college classroom or meeting in a high school with a college professor. However, more and more students are able to access dual enrollment courses online. Homeschool students who take advantage of dual enrollment find the benefits to be numerous:

·         It allows homeschool students to experience college level academics before actually entering college.

·         It smooths out the transition from high school to college.

·         Homeschool students can experience a wide range of courses and get a feel for different fields before declaring a major.

·         Homeschool students can begin to accumulate college credits before entering college and graduate college early or on time.

·         When accumulating enough credits to complete a freshman or sophomore year, homeschool students can pass the competition and enroll in college as a transfer student.

In most cases there will be a limit on the numbers of credits you take each semester. Most dual enrollment programs restrict students to a total of six credits per semester. Why? Students are now balancing their dual enrollment courses with a typical high school schedule.

If you have a motivated student who loves a challenge, who is looking for more advanced academics, who would like to work with a professor, or who would like to get a jump start on college then enrolling in a homeschool dual enrollment program is a great option.

September Summit - TX

You are invited to attend the September Summit on September 8, 2018 at Mid-Way Baptist Church, 4512 Ellis Drive, Kountze, TX 77625. The four sessions of the September Summit are faith, friendships, food, and fun. These four f’s are the ingredients for a happy homeschool mom.

FAITH – A short time of reviewing what God has to say about issues closets to a mother’s heart can do wonders to fill up an exhausted mom. Susan Reed, a homeschool mother of three, shares how you can have joy in the journey.

FRIENDSHIPS – Friendships strengthen us to be better wives and mothers. As any mom can attest, we tend to get so focused on others that we neglect ourselves; and that’s not good for anyone. We need to be with other homeschool moms – for that occasional grown-up conversation. A time to encourage one another and learn from each other’s challenges. During this session, conversation prompts will set in motion the “gift of gab”.

FOOD – There’s something about a get-together with food that nourishes a mother’s heart as well as her body. A luncheon will be served with chicken Caesar salad, bread, brownie, and iced tea.

FUN – Fun is the final, and in my opinion the most important session. Proverbs 17:22 says, “a merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” The Bible seems to suggest that laughter is a good antidote for the blues. That’s why I take fun so seriously. Therefore, a good game is a critical component for a successful September Summit.

SUMMIT SHOPPE – Do you have a home-based business? Display and sell at the Summit Shoppe! Do you have curriculum for sale? Sell it at the Summit Shoppe! Cost is only $10 for a table and booth space.

DOOR PRIZES – Our door prize table is always a hit and huge blessing! If you have a business and would like to donate a door prize for FREE advertisement in the program, please contact Susan Reed at susanmreed22@gmail.com.

Mom Time

Did you wake up this morning wishing you could just have a few hours or an entire day to yourself? Imagine what you could do with that amount of unscheduled time? You could read a book, window-shop, take a friend you haven’t seen in months to lunch, or spend the day at a homeschool mom summit.

Every homeschool mom treasures moments for herself when they come, but the problem is they rarely come on their own. As any mom can attest, we tend to get so focused on others that we neglect ourselves; and that’s not good for anyone. When we fail to make time for ourselves, we lose our joy, and homeschooling makes for one repetitious day after the next.

Maybe you could call a fellow homeschool friend and ask her if she would be willing to trade off watching each other’s children. Maybe you could ask your husband to use a vacation day. God knows you cannot homeschool on your own. Psalm 28:6-7 reads “Blessed be the LORD, because he hath heard the voice of my supplication. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusteth in him, and I am helped.” Ask God to help you find a way to get some much needed mom time. Besides, your children will enjoy homeschooling more, with a happy homeschool mom.

McFadden-Ward House

Completed in 1906, the McFaddin-Ward House stands as a testament to the Spindletop Oil Boom of 1901. Rancher W.P.H. McFaddin and his wife, Ida, aquired the house after a revolutionary oil gusher blew in on land they owned in Beaumont. The petrochemical industry as we know it today was born. The McFaddin's Beaux Arts/Colonial-style home with all its original furnishings provides a glimpse of the lavish lifestyle of a family that lived there for more than 75 years.

Reservations are strongly recommended for the guided tour of the house. Children must be at least eight years of age to take the guided tour.

Visitor Center: 1906 Calder Avenue - Beaumont, Texas - 77701
